Kiesanowski and Kerdemelidis wedding trip
Trying to determine what kind of heater this is... The Motor is 75mm or 3" across and about 80 mm long. Runs at 12 Volts. Label on it says "Derek O. Brown, Small Motor Rewinds, 160 Bond Street, Telephone 76-374" Fan blade unit is labelled "Smiths, Made In England" and has an arrow to indicate rotation direction. Interesting, the fan spins the other way regardless of polarity. Fan is made from plastic/nylon, and is ~60mm tall and 110mm across. There are no part numbers on it anywhere. ----------------------------------- Turns out that Derek Brown was a landy owner in Dunedin. He probably made up the heater box from something random, but never owned the vehicle. The heater takes air in from the passenger's footwell and up theough a horizontally-mounted heater core. All the genuine landy ones take fresh air from outside and through a vertical heater core. This way should be warmer but may induce air locks when I drain the coolant. One downside is the early series 3 has no heater baffles, so air is always going up to the windows, and there are two doors in front of the driver/passenger's knees. I'm looking at making a valve to close the passenger's window. ------------------------------------ The replacement motor came from a Range Rover, probably mid 80's. I used the same white nylon smith's fan, because it fits the hole. I could have cut the top open to fit the larger RR fan, but it had the support in the middle and would probably have worked out worse. The motor is reversible, so swapping the leads changes the rotation. It's mounted using the RR mount. ------------------------------------ Neil said: Your fan housing in the photos looks remarkably like the one in my '67 420 Jaguar - it's probably been crafted from a Brit car's heater setup of that era. ------------------------------------ Future plans 1) make choke for the passenger's windscreen column 2) fit electric coolant heater into radiator pipe 3) fit additional fan for increased airflow. 4) fit 3 pin socket in the back for dehunidifier usage![]()
