Kiesanowski and Kerdemelidis wedding trip
Hinges and latch, on the rear of my series 3. Originally there were only two hinges, and the spare tyre would have been a 6" wide crossply. This 10.5" radial is easily twice the weight, so added support seemed like a good idea. The middle hinge is just another bottom hinge, but fitted higher up. The trick to install it in a straight line is to dismount the whole door and run a rod or a couple of lines of string through all three hinge parts. Tension the string and use that to position the middle hinge part. The latch pictured is the old tounge and striker plate, rather than the new anti-burst one. I am searching for a lock barrel to fit. Below the latch is the weight bearing hitch called a dovetail. Since I added this, the rear door has stopped clunking while driving.![]()
